What to Expect Before and After Your First Adjustment

If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, you may be wondering what to expect during your first visit. First off, we’d like to thank you for putting your health first and deciding to give chiropractic care a try! We bet you’re going to love the results, gentle techniques, and natural wellness.

Here are a few things you can expect before, during, and after your first visit with us.

Before your adjustment, we will ask you about your medical history and any current pain or symptoms you’re experiencing. This helps us best understand your problem areas and why you’re seeking care. We will also perform a physical examination to help us determine the best possible way to care for you and to rule out any conditions that would not be chiropractic in nature.

Next comes your adjustment.  While most of our patients are anxious to get started with their chiropractic care, the most important aspect of your first visit is to determine IF YOUR PROBLEM is chiropractic in nature. Once Dr. Koehler, Nims  or Karvala has determined that your problem is chiropractic, the doctor will develop a treatment plan that is unique to your diagnosis and needs.

As it relates to your adjustment, we’re proud to be able to utilize a variety of techniques depending on what will work best for you. We want you to know that adjustments with us are entirely comfortable, gentle, and never forceful. If you’re nervous about receiving an adjustment, we’ll walk you through the entire process so there are never any surprises. While not everyone does, we will explain the cavitation or  ‘popping’ sound, which that’s entirely normal. The goal of an adjustment is to restore balance and proper alignment to your spine and most importantly to allow your nervous system to function as best as possible.

After the adjustment, most people feel great! Actually, on most occasions, there is a sense of “euphoria”. Some patients may feel soreness or achiness, much like after a physical workout. We recommend that all of our patients follow the cold pack or icing instructions. We hope you’ll notice that you feel more relaxed and have less muscle tension. We typically recommend ensuring you stay hydrated, as this is always beneficial for your health.
