Dr. Koehler's Goals

My early goal in life was to become a teacher which was the purpose of attending Illinois State University. Throughout that process, I had anatomy and various other healthrelated courses which created my interest in the health care field; however, I have never lost my passion for education. I am a true advocate of life-long learning.

I passed the Medical Practice Act in 1961 and became a licensed Chiropractic Physician and, of course, keep my license current. To maintain a license, a doctor must complete 150 hours of continuing education within a three year time span. In addition, I read Chiropractic Journals, do online research and constantly strive to keep myself current in all aspects of chiropractic, acupuncture and general health.

My practice and my staff became quite large. My team was usually comprised of six to eight office and therapy employees and one associate doctor. I gave many new physicians their first start and mentored several chiropractic interns. I personally trained all of my employees and insisted that they be knowledgeable, likeable, and professional and to always put the patient first. My goal for each of them was to be happy in the work environment, to be confident and to be proud to be part of a chiropractic team.

If I have the opportunity to teach Chiropractic Office Procedures to students, I would make the class stimulating, practical and pleasant ... a class that students would want to attend. I would consider it a great privilege to share the knowledge I have accrued with the future. My goal for my students would be that they would look forward with enthusiasm at the opportunity to become a well-trained member ofthe chiropractic family.
